Vincent van Gogh, Winter Garden in Neuen, 1884
pen and ink, 515 × 380 mm
Collection of Prints and Drawings, inv. no. 1935-2791
After a short stay in Drenthe, Van Gogh travelled to his parents’ new home in Nuenen in December 1883, and left that settlement only in November 1885, a few months after the death of his father, a pastor. During this period two themes engaged his attention: the depiction of working peasants and of nature. He drew the bare trees in the garden of the pastor’s residence in the early spring of 1884, before April, because in letters written in April he mentions this and a very similar drawing now in the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam. This pen and ink drawing with its sombre atmosphere illustrates the artist’s melancholy and painful solitude.

Second Occupy Movement News Update of the Day: As Occupy Wall Street enters its fifth week, the movement has grown exponentially to include hundreds of cities across the country and around the world.
Mother Jones has been keeping tabs on the solidarity protests around the country, while the Guardian has put together a list of global events. Solidarity for the movement has officially spread to all seven continents, as the photo above clearly shows.
A real-time map of Occupy Everywhere tweets can be found here; a more narrow map of Occupy Wall Street-related media can be found here.
Occupy Wall Street organizers today announced that they have raised nearly $300,000 in cash, all of which has been deposited at Amalgamated Bank — “the only 100 percent union-owned bank in the United States.” OWS is also storing large amounts of food and other supplies “for long-term occupation” at a space donated by the United Federation of Teachers.
“We’re moving fast, without a hierarchical structure and lots of gears turning,” college student-cum-political organizer Justin Strekal is quoted as saying. “Egos are clashing, but this is participatory democracy in a little park.” Both The New Yorker and TIME magazine have dedicated their cover stories to the Occupy Wall Street movement.
According to a just-published Quinnipiac University poll, 67% of New Yorkers said they support the Occupy Wall Street movement. 87% think they should be allowed to remain in Zuccotti Park, so long as they behave lawfully.
The Boston Globe’s Big Picture and The Atlantic’s In Focus posted photos from this past weekend’s global “Day of Rage.” In Russia, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin promised CEOs of leading corporate entities that approved increases in social spending would prevent similar protests from taking place there.
Back in the United States, the White House, referring to “frustrations” felt by middle and working-class citizens, used the term “99 percent” for the first time.
Dr. Cornel West, who was arrested while protesting with Occupy D.C. outside the Supreme Court, will not be prosecuted. Elsewhere, Bo Diddley’s son and Occupy Gainesville participant Ellas Anthony McDaniel was arrested, of all places, on Bo Diddley Community Plaza.
Making the Rounds: Geraldo Rivera returns to Zuccotti Park, gets “powdered” with strawberry drink mix; an Occupy Wall Street antagonist chugs a $260 bottle of Cristal; a new Android app inspired by OWS lets users quickly text relevant parties in case of an arrest; more on NYPD Community Affairs Detective Rick, AKA “Hipster Cop”; this was bound to happen: Protester proposes to his girlfriend in Zuccotti Park by asking her to “occupy my heart” (watch below).

Paul Richer. Neurologist, painter, sculptor, he was a collaborator with Charcot. It is natural that we have called on him to illustrate the concept of encounter between neurology and the arts - an old idea that we would like to maintain. Moreover, Paul Richer is a sculptor neurologist or a neurologist sculptor as you will, who devoted his life to the study of the movement. It shows the movements pathological and illogical attitudes

Steve Richard has been plying his trade in the mysterious photographic arts for well over a quarter of a century. Steve is both a stills photographer and a cinematographer, thus bringing an unerring sense of style and composition to all of his work. Whether it is commercial, corporate, or fine art work, Steve?s visuals capture the imagination, challenge preconceptions, and merge a classical ethos with urban grit and 21st Century techno-savvy.
Born and raised in a small town in Canada, Steven took his first photograph at the age of 12, over 33 years ago. Much of the early years were spent developing his craft while working in the various commercial facets of the photography trade
